A Teacher's Path to the Forest
I grew up in the Outer Hebrides in Scotland, making potions in the ditches of our croft, so I’ve always felt a strong connection to the wild outdoors. I have an MA in English Literature from the University of Edinburgh, and a PGCE from the Institute of Education in London. I have over 8 years experience teaching English in South Korea, England and Switzerland.
I have always loved teaching, but my passion for education deepened when I became a mother of two daughters here in Switzerland. Experiencing outdoor learning with them showed me how powerfully children learn when they are curious, active, and engaged in real experiences.
I saw how time outdoors supports not only wellbeing, but also key skills for language development—focus, communication, and the ability to express ideas clearly and confidently.
Most importantly, I saw how naturally English develops when children are relaxed and inspired. Vocabulary grows through context, storytelling becomes richer, and children begin to use language with greater confidence and creativity.
And of course, it all happens through joy and play.
